Privacy Policy

The short version. We collect the minimum we need to compare your shop and find you savings. We don't sell your data. Your receipts, emails and loyalty account info stay yours, and you can delete them at any time.
Who we are
Sweet As Saving is an app made in Aotearoa New Zealand. The data controller is Sweet As Saving Limited ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@sweetassaving.nz.
What we collect
- Account basics: email, mobile number, household size, and a rough financial picture you choose to share during onboarding.
- Shopping data: receipt photos, forwarded order emails or linked loyalty account data — whichever option you pick.
- Optional context: pets, regular store, region, big-shop day, and (if you tell us) Community Services Card details to unlock extra savings.
- Device identifiers: a hashed device ID stored in your Keychain so we can dedupe accounts and protect against abuse.
- Diagnostic data: crash reports and basic usage so we can fix bugs.
What we never collect
- Bank account numbers, card numbers or banking passwords.
- Precise location — we use the region you pick, not GPS pings.
- Browsing history or data from other apps.
How we use it
- To compare your trolley across Pak'nSave, New World and Woolworths and surface savings.
- To match donated credits to families in need who genuinely qualify (Community Services Card holders).
- To send you the savings reports and alerts you've opted into.
- To improve the app and prevent abuse.
Sharing
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the app (cloud hosting, push notifications, email delivery) and only the minimum they need. If we ever need to share anonymised, aggregated savings stats publicly, individuals will never be identifiable.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored on servers operated by Google Firebase in Sydney, Australia (region australia-southeast1) and Cloudflare's global edge network. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
How long we keep it
Receipts and shopping data: 24 months by default, so we can show year-on-year comparisons. Account profile: until you delete your account. Diagnostic logs: 90 days.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020
You can ask us to:
- Show you a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your account and everything tied to it.
- Stop processing your data.
Email privacy@sweetassaving.nz and we'll action it within 20 working days. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Children
Sweet As Saving isn't intended for under-16s. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and bump the "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be flagged in-app.
